Justin Schroeder Memorial Foundation
Established in 2003 to honor the memory of Justin Schroeder through scholarships and contributions to youth educational and athletic programs.
About Our Foundation
The Justin Schroeder Memorial Foundation was established in October 2003 to honor the memory of Justin Schroeder through scholarships and contributions to youth educational and athletic programs. Justin was an honor student at both Crystal Lake South High School and Marquette University, where he completed three semesters in Electrical Engineering. He tragically died on April 9, 2003 in Memphis, Tennessee from injuries sustained in an auto accident as he and two friends returned from the NCAA basketball tournament in New Orleans.
To honor his scholastic achievements, his zest for life, and his love of learning, Justin's parents felt it was appropriate to create scholarship awards in his name to graduates of Crystal Lake South and to McHenry County students attending Marquette University’s School of Engineering. In the past 18 years the foundation has been able to award scholarships to 21 young people from Crystal Lake South. During 2005 the foundation initiated the Justin Schroeder Memorial Fund at Marquette, and it has created an endowed scholarship to the School of Engineering. The Foundation has assisted 11 dedicated MU students in completing their undergraduate degrees, We are proud to be able to help these students on their way to becoming successful at their chosen professions and vocations.
SERVICES
Scholarship Foundation
Scholarship awards are the primary function of the JSMF. We have two separate awards funded by the foundation.
Crystal Lake South High School
Each year, a $10,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at South. The award is paid over 4 years at $2,500 per year, provided the student maintains a determined grade point average. The student may attend any accredited post-graduate program of their choosing,
Marquette University
We have an endowment at Marquette University - College of Engineering for students from any McHenry County high school. This is a 3-year award beginning their sophomore year.
Athletic Programs
Justin enjoyed many athletic endeavors. He played football, wrestled and was part of the track team at Crystal Lake South each of his four years. He also played baseball during summer months. The Foundation is happy to assist Crystal Lake Babe Ruth as a sponsor, as well as contribute to various athletic programs at Crystal Lake South.
The Gator football program is of special interest, as his #73 jersey was retired and flies over home football games. The football mental attitude award at South has been named in his honor.
